"Dorlands" indicates came from France around 65 miles south of Paris to Breuken, HollandOne Dorland researcher, Steven Fulk of NY, states that "Gerret Jansson Dorlandt married Annitjen (Jasper) D Dirk about 1626 in Kortenhoefse, Holland." He also lists Gerret's father as: "Jan Jans (Jansson) Dorlandt, b. abt 1550, Kortenhoefse, (Utrecht) Holland; m. about 1580, and died after 1642. His wife's name was Christina_____." And then, his father as: "Jan Dorlant, b. about 1520 (same place); married about 1550" (no name for his spouse). He gave no reference sources for this information. According to "The Holland Project:" Gerrit Jans Dorlant, son of Jan Jans Dorlant and Christina was married to Annitjen JASPERS, daughter of Dirk. He is mentioned in "Book 110, Kortenhoefse on smaller Consumtion of Money" 1618; in 1624, 1627, 1632, and 1633 as an alderman of Cortenhoef (Prothocolien
Kortenhoef), and as a peat digger in Cortenhoef 1618-1635 (Description of the number of peatdiggers in Cortenhoef). He died before 1636. Their children were: 1. Jans Gerrits Dorlant 2. Cornelis Gerrits, under age in 1636 3. Wouter, married Geertijen Jansdochter; died before 1643 4. Dirck Gerrits 5. Claes Gerrits (?) (NOTE: According to Cremer, Gerrit and Annijen were the parents of Lambert Dorlant who emigrated to Nieu Amsterdam in 1652 on "The Spotted Cow." The Holland Research found that Lambert was not their son, but rather a first cousin of Jan Gerretse.)

Henry FLEISHER, 1744-1821, Pendleton Co Militiaman
Descendants of Henry FLEISHER (1744-1821), a veteran of the American Revolutionary War, recently laid a headstone at his grave near Monterey, VA. A dedication cermony will be held 3 Jul, as the Fleisher clan gathers for their annual reunion nearby. Henry FLEISHER was born in Holland, Germany in 1744 and came with his father, Peter Fleisher, to Port Philadelphia, PA, around the middle of the century. They then relocated to Pendleton Co, VA, just six miles north of Monterey, VA, on US Rt. 220. The homestead now is located on the line between West Virginia and Virginia with land in both states.
He married Susan Catherine PENINGER in 1777 to which union was born 11 children two of which died in infancy. Of the nine children, seven went west with the two youngest inheriting the homeplace. Four of these children, Henry, Jr., Conrad, George and Barbara [FLEISHER] HEFNER, went to Fayette Co, Ohio, around 1810 and all owned land and engaged in business there. Henry Jr. was a blacksmith and the others were farmers. While he was there, Henry, Jr. was wounded in the War of 1812 and had nine children born in Fayette Co, OH. Curtis E. Fleisher of Washington C.H., OH [Fayette County], became a member of the Arthur St. Claire Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution by way of his great-great-great-grandfather, Henry FLEISHER. (Lineage- Henry, Andrew, Solomon, Austin, Elbert and Curtis). He applied for a stone from the Veterans Administration to mark the grave of Henry Fleisher who served under General Washington. Henry Fleisher was listed as a sergeant at Valley Forge, PA, and later promoted to lieutenant. Some of his travels included Tigert Valley, Winchester, Jersey and Middlebrook. He was on a two year enlistment from Augusta County, VA, and served in Capt. Michael Bowyer's Company, the 12th Virginia Regt., commanded by Col. James Wood, and General Scott's Brigade. He was in the battle of Brandywine, Germantown and other skirmisher.
After the Revolutionary War, he continued to serve in the militia of Pendleton County where he achieved the rank of major. He had a son, Benjamin, who was also sheriff of said county, according to some reports. On 9 Jun 1999, Curtis and Janet FLEISHER, accompanied by brother-in-law, Glenn BOTKIN, Jr., of McDowell, VA, took the stone, which was delivered to their residence in Washington CH, OH, in Apr. They set it in concrete in the Fleisher Cem.
{End of article}
There is a photo of the grave marker, but I cannot read what is on them. The area where the homestead is located was all part of Pendleton County, VA until 1847 when Highland County was formed. The historical society in Highland County has a copy of the Campbell Map, which was done in 1847, showing residences, for sale. They are located in Monterey, VA.
